Thank you Gerry for giving us the finest performance I have ever seen in 20 years of attending Glyndebourne. It was utterly magical. You held a packed house in the palm of your pitch stained hand and it was a huge privilege to be there. Uncharacteristically, I leapt to my feet and bellowed ‘bravo’ – twice – from the circle when you took you curtain call. I found it simply impossible to remain seated such was my ecstacy and complete joy at hearing you sing and watch you act. I wish you every success and thank my lucky stars that I am an opera lover on the planet at the same time as you.
